    BENE-BERAK

    (Benʹe-beʹrak) [Sons of Berak].

A city of Dan identified with Ibn Ibraq (or Kheiriyeh [Horvat Bene-beraq]), 8 km (5 mi) ESE of Tel Aviv-Yafo (Joppa). (Jos 19:40, 45) The Arabic name Ibn Ibraq corresponds to the Hebrew Bene-berak. In a prism of Sennacherib, that emperor’s account of the Assyrian campaign against Hezekiah states that he “besieged Beth-Dagon, Joppa, Banai-Barqa [Bene-berak], Azuru.”—Ancient Near Eastern Texts, edited by J. Pritchard, 1974, p. 287.
